"Long_Voyager, Now With More Caravanny Goodness" (long-voyager-2nd-edition)

The Acclaim was in dire need of tires again, so I got a call from my Dad about some tires in my size at a local garage sale. We headed over to check them out.
Sadly only a pair were good, but the 15" Neon wheels sitting next to them had almost brand new tires on them, only 2 years old. I ask about them, the lady tells me $50 takes them, so in the back of the van they go.
The wheels are in decent shape, the tires are excellent.
Once I get them home, I set into refinishing the wheels:
Sanded them out, then layed down a coat of primer, followed by 2 coats of “Oil Rubbed Bronze”.
Once that had tacked up nicely, I laid down 2 coats of clear:
Let them dry overnight and got em mounted:
She rides a lot nicer with some sidewall back, I’ll take 60 series over 45s any day.

Looking great! I always liked those Neon rims, actually! Weirdly, Borsuq had sent me a picture of an Opel in Poland once that had those rims on it! Neons were sold their as Chryslers, but they were never super common, so it was really weird to see, haha!
Can’t find the picture now, weirdly...

Do we have to take that trail to get to the Nissan?
If yes, I choose that.

I like them, they’re like smaller SRT4 wheels ( well actually SRT4 wheels are larger Neon wheels, but that’s just details ).

I can’t argue it would look amazing lowered though, I’ll just never lower a vehicle in WI again, our roads are terrible.

Row row row your boat...
Alternatively, it is possible to do a road trip around the Pacific. North to Alaska, boat to Japan, another boat then down through Asia to Singapore, boat to Darwin then road trip! Return via boat across Pacific. Too easy...a bit time consuming though.

I feel like I have to CP that. How do you get a vehicle so dirty in 29k miles?

Our Neon has those wheels! Part of me was sad to see it go, but after several years of being the mom-mobile, it had a smell of spoiled milk that defied every attempt to remove it.

This is why we’ve never let milk in the kid’s hands. They can have water/clear liquids in the car, anything else can wait until we stop somewhere.

That was the rule in my truck. Unfortunately, it was her car and she was the one schlepping the kids around everywhere, so she overruled me on that one. I tried everything short of ripping out the back seat and taking it to a car wash.

That’s been the rule in any of our vehicles, since day 1.
I may be weird, but I’ll never understand people who are ok with just letting their vehicle go to hell ( not saying your wife, just saying in general ), my vehicles get a little stuff inside them and I HAVE to clean them out.
I wish I’d have taken pics of the inside of my Acclaim when I got it. The back ( where his kids rode ) was damn near mint clean, the front however was a cesspool of spilled soda, coffee, milkshake, cigarette ash, etc. I didn’t realize how bad it was until the first 50+ degree day when I opened the door . The floors were completely black from all the crap they’d spilled all over. I pulled the seats and went to town with my Wife’s Norwex, a scrub brush, a hose, and the Shopvac . Took me most of a weekend, but you’d never know the cesspool it was when I got it, it’s actually tan inside again and there is no smell.
I just can’t wrap my head around how people are ok driving around like that, let alone picking other people up with it!?!

We went to test drive an Odyssey that had a fantastic listing price. When we arrived, the salesman was waiting for us with the van running so we wouldn’t have to sit in a hot car. The test drive was great and the van was in excellent condition. We returned to the lot and were ready to discuss terms. I shut it off, then walked over to talk to the salesman. Five minutes later, my wife had a question about the lift gate and how the rear seats folded down. So, I hit the button to open the automatic gate while we walked around to the back. The smell that hit us was nearly overwhelming. Someone had lost their lunch in the back of that van and it was clear that the only solution would be to strip the interior and give it a thorough cleaning. Perhaps it could be saved!
My wife’s answer was a hard “no.”
